About

The Edgemon Family Foundation was established in 2016 in Dallas, Texas as a private family foundation. We are governed by a family board and operate without paid staff — every dollar of overhead is a dollar not granted.

What We Believe

We believe that land, seeds, food, and community are the same problem. The organizations we fund work at the intersection of ecological resilience and community self-sufficiency. We also believe that the most cost-effective global health interventions deserve sustained support, regardless of geography.

How We Give

Our giving philosophy is straightforward: fewer organizations, larger grants, deeper relationships. We are moving toward multi-year commitments so that our grantees can plan rather than fundraise. Every grant connects to one of three areas — land, community, or the direct relief of human suffering.

We do not accept unsolicited grant applications.

Strategic Direction

We think in phases.

Focus — The current work is discipline, not growth. We are tightening the grantee list, increasing grant sizes, and building deeper relationships with anchor partners.

Consolidate — As the foundation’s resources grow, we will shift from annual gifts to multi-year commitments and reduce the number of grantees further, investing more deeply in fewer organizations.

Build — At sufficient scale, we will add staff, begin funding policy and advocacy work, and bring outside expertise onto the board.

Arrive — Our long-term vision is a foundation known for ecological and food resilience in the American South, with a secondary commitment to global health. Three focused programs. Organizations that know our name because we showed up, stayed, and gave meaningfully.

Governance

The foundation is governed by a family board that meets multiple times per year. Strategic decisions — mission, values, grant allocation — are made collectively. We are a small foundation that takes the work seriously.
